Fear Not

When I spoke to Kiyan of this journey,
he was concerned over single women traveling alone
on a carvan of this enchantment -- not for the
stallwart persons, but as this was not much done,
other travelers met may make assumptions,
and act in a 'possessive' manner. Within a Caravanserai
there is always protection of body and spirit,
but between these havens is danger --
as noted before.

So Kiyan has engaged the Alani as mercenary escorts.
They cannot enter the encampments as they will not
surrender their weapons, but you may draw comfort from riders
on the hills. Normally they only offer this 'service' to those
on the road between Kazan and Mongolia above the Caspian Sea.
There will be no bandits or unexpected visiters, though some
may view this Alani protection as a kind of extrortion ...

but they apparently owe Kiyan some great debt,
and all will be well. Remember, even Ghengis Khan
would not fight the Alan, but hired them as escorts.
If you meet one, cross your arms across your chest
and do not bow or stand aside, nor offer gift; but if their
horse should approach you, it is OK to give it fruit
on the back of your hand.

I am pleased to know that we are under such strong protection. Now I must try to gather myself and get along on this journey!

Kiyan's concern is justified faucon.

Be assured that we do travel with the blessing of the huge-eyed Syrian Goddess Mari who has the ability to search men's souls. For more than a thousand years of recorded history, before the advent of Islam, Arabia had a matriarchal culture, governed by a series of divinely appointed queens. The black stone of the Kaaba, revered then and now as Arabia's most sacred object, may be likened to the black stone representing the Goddess Cybele.

The spirit of the Queen of Heavens will hover over us as we travel.
